"It said it cannot find the printer, we know nothing about it so we reinstalled the driver. The PC could not load anymore but we managed to start it in safe mode. Then we did not know what to do so we uninstalled the driver and now it does not load at all."

This is definitely the best attempt to fix the loose USB cord issue I have seen.

Too bad there are no drivers that explode and kill anything nearby. They say Microsoft is collecting suggestions about their Windows Vista. Maybe we could ask them really-really nice to include such feature? For security reasons.

They need to have Clippy pop up and ask, "You look like you're trying to screw with the printer drivers! Have you checked to make sure the printer is plugged in and turned on?"

If you don't know how to do something, I would MUCH rather you ask someone who does than try and do something about it yourself and make things worse. I have never had a problem helping people that know less than me if they don't try and act like they know something.

I really didn't word that well, but you get what I mean.

Usually folks like this *THINK* they know what they're doing. That's why they're dangerous.

Icon love, BTW, OLD SKOOL!

How the... how the f*ck did they manage to f*ck up the OS while attempting to install a fricking printer driver??

Thank GOD we lock most of our accounts so no one can run the .exe files that drivers usually come in.

It's probably Windows. That thing will f*ck up if you LOOK at it hard.

Heh, and obviously PEBKAC to the infinite; everybody has those users that could figure out a way to f*ck up a nail file if given the chance. Like, they'd try to use it to grate cheese, or something.

With the exception of server-mounted printers that seemingly quit working at will, I've had really good luck with our Windows network, knock wood.

These are the most dangerous types of users, and the hardest ones to get to troubleshoot.

I've said, "OK then, good luck with that. Thanks for calling." when someone refused to follow my instructions. I only have ~10-years of Tech Support experience (Started in High School) and a College Degree behind me.
