Ok, so this is kind of stupid.

Customer calls in to software support today, no biggie, our hardware number is kinda stupid to find, so she talks to the software tech who does some initial troubleshooting. As an aside, the problem here is that this ladies notebook is not powering up, not at all, not with either battery, not with an AC adaptor, nothing. So, our software tech transfers her to hardware. hardware tech looks at the notes and says, and I'm quoting the notes here "Software issue". So I get her, she's royally pissed, and I do the entire troubleshooting tree with her, only to discover GASP! Hardware issue!

Transferred her off, the guy said "Did you check the bios?" Me: No, Because it doesn't TURN ON! Him: Check the bios. Me: CAN'T! Him: ok.

In Days Of Long Ago, Compaq DID put their BIOS setup on the hard drive. If the hard drive went bad, you couldn't get into the BIOS to make changes.

So the tech was right about part of it.

Yep. The Deskpro 2000's, and some of their 486 based servers were like that. Major pain in the ass.

Its extra irritaiting when fellow techs are stupid.

As a sidenote I found a trick to laptops I didn't know about. If laptop won't turn on unplug the AC and pull the battery. Then hold down the power button for 30 seconds. That will dissipate any remaining charge, plug everything back in and it should turn on.

Sounds like Dell tech support. "I have a computer here that won't power on." "Okay, do you have a copy of the diagnostic cd." "Yes, but the computer won't power on." "Well can you boot off of that cd and run the hardware diagnostics?" "No, the computer will not turn on. I can't even open the cd-rom drive to insert the cd." "Okay I think this is a hardware problem" *dies*
