What exactly is it you do around here?

User: "I never got that spreadsheet you said you e-mailed me last Thursday."

Me: "Well that's strange, I know I sent it. *checks Sent Items folder* Yeah, it went out Thursday morning."

User: "Well I didn't get it. I haven't gotten any e-mail from anyone since October."

D'OH! Why did you wait 4 months to tell me about this?


I checked his machine this morning. The problem was that Outlook was not set to automatically retrieve messages. The user apparently couldn't figure out the meaning of the Send/Receive button. >_

1500 messages. I weeded out the spam for him, which dropped it down to a mere 100 or so messages. >_

We've had instances where OE will silently set itself to do that. We still don't know how of why, or if our users are lying to us.

I have seen that happen with OE a few times after performing updates that included fixes for OE, so I would say it's possible they're telling the truth at least some of the time on it :)

Had one yesterday, where user hadn't received any new messages for a week. Turned out InBox was sorted by From and not Received. D'oh!

I remember when my mom asked me to setup email for her on her home computer. I did. Next time we talked, she asked where it was. So, I changed the name of the icon to "E-mail", and didn't tell her just to see if she'd figure it out. She didn't.

There is no way I coulda come from them loins.

I recently had a faculty member (a part timer, I've never even seen half of them)come to me whining that she couldn't get into her email.

She has worked at the college for TWO YEARS and has never checked her email.

How do they keep a job, is what I want to know?
