When asked to click on "I forgot my password" to reset it..

"I didn't forget the password, the system forgot the password."

Oh. I thought it was when the network cable came loose and spilled all the packets over the floor (you know, when it's a network logon, not the local kind).

Damn, I've been giving people the wrong information. Oh NOES!

Y'know, I've seen that. I had my browser configured to remember a particular password, then suddenly one day it told me it was invalid. No expiry, no logic reasoning, just refused to accept a password it had taken the day before. Stupid Cingular.

Outlook has this nifty "feature" where if you reset a password on an NT 4.0 domain, it magically forgets that the password it's saved is still correct, and proceeds to make you change it. Most annoying.

Active Directory/Exchange does not have this problem for obvious reasons...

Lol

For some reason this reminds me of the time we interviewed someone for a support position. The Interviewee made some comment about "doing battle with the computer". All I could think to myself was so do I, but unlike you I win them.

I have had two Windows 2000 machines "forget" all of their passwords (the SAM or whatever-it's-called got buggered). Judicious use of this mildly dangerous tool (http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html) saved the day.

When customers get like that, I usually just agree with them and continue. No point in adding 30 seconds to my call trying to get them to admit they fucked something up.
