Half my team is out today. HALF.

That leaves 3 people on the phones. There are.... 8 calls holding. Calls here can take an hour. It's not even close to prime time yet.

that really sucks. at my callcenter we have run out of working phones. We have one person working for 2 hours each day without a phone because the working phones are all taken and the company is too cheap to pay for more line/ext. The worst part is we have about 20 $600 VOIP phones sitting at all the desks for over 6 months waiting for some dumbass to do some programming on the call management system. They spent maybe a million dollars to run fiber to the office over 5 months ago.

The sad thing is that you can only take care of one at a time, if your company doesn't value its csrs and doesn't rectify things, it's so not your fault.

I wish I could.

I went through that a while back - until I got my latest manager (I hope we keep this one, he tells the truth). The worst was one day when they accidentally scheduled EVERYONE on my team except for me with either a day off, or a "training" day that was across town.

Let's just say that management kept far, far away from me that day.

Ugh I'm sorry. Every day I thank God that I'm not on phones anymore (transferred to another job in the company)... but it seems desks are staffed with the minimum amount of people, THEN you are smashed with calls and the lead is walking around like a parrot "There are CALLS in the queue!"
