Feb. 4th, 2006 01:16 pmJust trying to help out fellow community members... skip it if you're not interested.
I just got an email notification for some jobs available where I work. 3 positions need to be filled. This is in Hartford, CT, by the way. I can't tell you what hours they're looking for, probably across the spectrum.
I mean, literally in my same department. Granted, yes, they're helldesk jobs, but I know the economy has been kinda sucky, and the job does pay well and give rather decent benefits/insurance, plus has tuition reimbursement. It's for an insurance company, *gasp* dull, I know, but you're also dealing with internal employees, not the normal bunch of idjits (they're still annoying, but if they swear at you or are particularly nasty, you know who their supervisor is...heh heh heh). And god knows, we need people with a clue.
I'm sure we're mostly on Windows XP (Service Pack 2 was being added when I was last there, but I am going back so it's probably further along now). Dealing with mostly Outlook 2003, Office XP. Another branch has Lotus Notes, and if you know it, it's an added bonus. Lots of dealing with remote callers (routers, networking, etc), not to mention wireless as it's being rolled out. Management is decent - much better now that the bitch in charge was fired for...probably being such a bitch in charge.
Pay? Pay is better than I usually see when I look myself. You'd be guaranteed $50K, minimum, probably closer to $55K, maybe more depending on experience, shift worked - 10% shift differential for working nights, and you get paid more than the normal salary. Looks like they're trying to bypass consultants at this point. There is a chance of a signing bonus, if you ask about it. The helldesk gets paid rather better than desktop support. Lots of projects going around, too. We're an integrated group with our two major areas concentrated into one office. Starbucks on premises, nurse where you can get free bloodwork done and flushots. Full cafeteria. Fully vested after 5 years. 2 weeks paid vacation, lots of sick time, and an extra week after 4 years of service.
I've posted the job, but stripped indentifiers from where I work, just in case the big boys are watching. If you feel it would help, I can submit your resume as an employee, and give you an extra chance at being seen.
