C: I was just wondering if it's safe to use my computer tonight.
J: Um.. Why?
C: Because of that virus that's supposed to hit everyone. Is it safe?
J: ...


It's a virus, not a fucking hurricane! You're so stupid it's not safe for you to be in public!

To be fair, I am checking my computer security and will most likely uprate it for the duration of tomorrow from "uncommon sense" to "heads up, we have incoming" (higher levels including "extremely paranoid", "jumping at shadows" and "+++ NO CARRIER"). I know of at least one person who will be leaving his Windows machine switched off tomorrow, in case one of his colleague's computers is hit and attacks network shares.

I know I've not been hit, but I also know that people on the same network(s) do not use anti-virus scanners or firewalls, and that some will quite likely lack uncommon sense.

I work a help desk for the arts faculty at my University.

Professor calls to ask to update his virus definitions and do a scan because "I saw on the news last night that a terrible virus is coming." This is his home machine that he uses for, as far as I can tell, Skype.

I mean, I suppose it's better to worry more than to worry not enough...

I don't mind THAT kind of user. Shows that he's paying attention.
