On the lighter side of things....
Jul. 2nd, 2003 03:06 pmHere at Marquette all of the IT Services students (and some of the staff) get "back to school" t-shirts. Our support services intern is handleing the shirts and he put out an e-mail asking us for slogans...
These are the top 5
1) There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't
2) There's no place like 127.0.0.1
3) Don't blame me, it's a manufacturer problem
4) MU IT Services: busting you for copyright infringement since [ITS starting year]
5) Will work for bandwidth
If anyone has any suggestions, i'll pass them to him.

Date: 2003-07-02 04:29 pm (UTC)Had that on my licence plate frame. It is so funny reading peoples lips as they read it, shrug and shake their heads.
Still true though, I moved to the country side and would kill for dsl

Date: 2003-07-03 09:07 pm (UTC)I'm going to take a wild guess here and say that you are stuck w/ crap ass dial up? (Please tell me that it's at least not AOL!)
Btw.. Is there any real benefit to DSL over cable? I have cable right now (mainly because I get a really, really nice discount through the school(yay student discount)). However, my mom has Comcrap cable and they're jacking the price up AGAIN on her (she's had a cable modem there since Media One cable first offered it way back in '97 (At least I think it was '97)).

Re:
Date: 2003-07-03 09:11 pm (UTC)Depends on where you are at... how many people on your block you live have cable. DSL is technically faster but by a hair. Hardly noticable from what I am told. Course I was 300 ft and 600 feet from the box when I had it and had super fast ass speeds. Shouldn't pay more than $50 for dsl or cable, if you do you are getting ripped
And that ends our q&a portion at this time

Date: 2003-07-03 09:24 pm (UTC)Anyway.. I will admit that I WAS an AOL user.. Back when AOL did more than just provide internet at outrageous (sp?) prices... We dumped it right after it went unlimited in favor of one of the local ISPs... (We had that until we got a cable modem)
Although, AOL has bailed me out a few times since I have been at school (in other words, the week between when I moved into my apartment and when time-warner installed my roadrunner) but otherwise I try to avoid it like the plauge.

Date: 2003-07-03 12:48 am (UTC)When I was a sysadmin for a local non-profit, I was inundated with tech support questions for home issues. It was alright until about the 50th time I heard "I opened this email and got a virus. What do I do?"
Another good site for computer shirts is www.computergear.com (http://www.computergear.com/tech-tees---ties.html).

P.S. I can't tell you the number of times that my mom has called me because she infected her system w/ a virus e-mail.
