Seriously. I'm awed at this level of sheer stupidity.

We have an automated abuse reporting system. Well, our upstream provider does. You submit your whine complaint, and it will send you an email saying it has been accepted into the system. From there it filters down to the company leasing that particular IP.

Nice and sane

Except...one particular idiot. I want to pat him on the head and take him home and give him to my rats to play with.

He reported spam.
He got the acknowledgement email
He promptly hits the roof and reports the acknowledgement email to the system as spam
Rinse and repeat

So far he's reported fifteen emails to the system, 14 of them being system acknowledgement emails And the beautiful thing is - each time he sends in a report HE GETS ANOTHER EMAIL BACK.

Oh god, it's up to 17 now...

Because, of course, since it's not porn an email he asked for seventeen times, it must be spam.

Eh, it could be worse. It could be a clinical paranoid calling in to abuse, convinced that the CIA is using her disconnected webcam in her unplugged computer to spy on her while she sleeps. That's a conversation I had twice while working abuse, btw. :-)

Heh, sexbot. No repressed issues there at all.

Do you get the ones that send in reams and reams of printouts, phone bills, registry settings, etc as 'evidence' that their computers have been hacked and their lives ruined? I used to collect those mailings in my crazy file. One woman went through 12 computers in six months, because they subsequently broke after she went diving into the registry and "delete[ing] anything that looks like it's not supposed to be there."

If I had to deal with that person, I'd prolly have multiple bruises or bumps on my head from repeatedly banging my head on my desk or something...

Yeah, I had one of those back in the late 90's who was convinced the BATF and CIA were trying to take down his website (which was full of some batshit loco religious rantings) because "Bill Clinton was the Antichrist".

Completely paranoid, but yet when I asked for his username and password so I could troubleshoot his site, he didn't even pause before giving them to me. Just once, I wanted to say, "Sir...we know who you are. We know where you are. Don't try to run." (which was true...we had all his billing info) X-D

Nothing suspicious about the subject line, then?

Also no chance he could have an automatic spam filter that somehow reports it without his knowing?

Easy fix for this one. close his account for abusing the system (which is probably listed in the T&Cs somewhere...)

THen when he calls in to complains, tell the person why.

64. Good god what a moron.

I had the same thing happen. Only in this case the customer was spamming our support box with complaints, how much he hates our service, etc. Fortunatley I was a superviser and flagged his account for spam. The great thing is, once we did that the account cannot be reactivated...every.

You go bye-bye now.

I got to see them on their "Once" tour on their first US visit... it was a great show, best concert I've ever been to as far as the raw energy and passion of the fans, plus the smaller venue made it very personal.

Sonata Arctica coming to town Feb 13, can't fucking wait.

for the last two years (that i know of) uc berkeley has a flood of emails among seniors. somehow, they all end up on a specific "senior list" and everyone sends emails to the list trying to unsubsribe. they CAN'T unsubscribe, but they keep sending the emails, which generates an incredible volume of email to EVERYONE ON THE LIST. they just can't figure it out, even after it's obvious that sending the emails just makes it worse. honestly, i think people who respond to the list shouldn't be allowed to graduate.

I got a phish once and forwarded it, headers and all, to the abuse address for the company being phished - and got an answer back from them saying it had been rejected as possible spam.
