[identity profile] ezerick.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] techrecovery
Hey there,
I was wondering if I could get some advice here? I'm looking for a good CMS for a non=professional site. I tried Joomla but it seems a bit unwieldy to me. Also, do you know any good web design or web programming communities here on LJ?

[livejournal.com profile] tech_suppot?? Don't you mean [livejournal.com profile] tech_support??

Either way you are on the money. WRONG PLACE TO ASK STUFF!

one of the mods should post something with a higher date (2020 for example) so it shows up first if you look at the community's page.

Actually, that's a good idea, I might do that for my own community, thanks!

You can't, communities aren't allowed backdated posts and then they slip down. Unless of course it's just my communities, in whcih case I'll go scream at LJ again.

Geez. What is it with people not reading the userinfo? I'll refrain this time from suggestions with how your brain's content should be managed.

All too well. And I'm feeling particularly bitter today. This is a multi-step recovery for me that will eventually land me in alt.tech-support.recovery or whateverthehell it's called. I left my job back in late December and I'm still letting out a lot of aggression and pent up anger, mostly at management and technicians. People who couldn't read half the time, and the other half didn't give a shit to do their job right.

Cluelessness on the part of an end-luser I can forgive - nobody expected it of them. Their lack of knowledge keeps us employed. Out of the people we hire, it's pathetic. It makes our jobs harder or gets them shipped elsewhere.

I'm ready to simply be an accountant armed with a knowledge of geek that will put my competitors to shame in a few short years. Oh, and keep playing with my toys for FUN. *sighs*

Ouch. Cause I know you loved your job and the people you managed, and I for one very much respected what you did. You. Flist. Now. :)

So now we've had a great thread about troubleshooting a toaster, we're working on a vi vs. emacs debate, I've expanded my flist, and all this courtesy of a couple of morons who couldn't read. I swear, I'm gonna make a couple of troll accounts one of these days as the office stress relief doll, just for techsupport to abuse ;).

The thought has crossed my mind that these posts were, in fact, trolls.

However, i need the relief as much as anyone, (namely because I'm not allowed to apply the Hammer of Disipline or it's bigger brother, the Mattock of Destruction to this $@&^$%#* dell I've been fighting the past week) So I've been letting it slide.

I really wish more managers would get that through their heads. Even in jobs where they think it doesn't matter, because they think the people are just going to fuck around anyway. People won't. And you certainly can't jump to that conclusion without giving them the benefit of the doubt. Whatever business I am conducting is important to me, therefore the people I have working for me are important to me to ensure that my goals and objectives are met for it. Not a difficult concept.

Abuse that trust and you'll see how far it gets you, especially when your coworkers are enjoying the privileges having my trust has. Business is not as impersonal a concept as all that, especially in working with people (geez, ya think... some people don't.)

Learn to type yo!

Naw, hardcore would be using nothing but, what, awk and sed?

(Actually I do like you and use vim. But shh. ed trumps vi vs emacs.)

Yeah, but we can be posers together. Cause I stay pretty well within the Windows and Mac realms.

Then again, not all geeks have to write code. I pride myself with what I can cram into a 1U enclosure ;).

I'm a recent defector, so I will get there. Good to now know it's there, but I'm taking baby steps. There are many paths to enlightenment, many more that will lead one astray, but I shall persevere. Eventually I will only use this machine for gaming :).

I am ashamed to say that when I'm writing, I usually use ee, directly on the web server, and directly editing the page itself.

'cuase I can't seem to get the hang of vi's cursur movement and entry quirks.

From: [identity profile] jon787.livejournal.com
Thats why most sane people use vim instead of true vi.

Whats really fun is sneaking "bindkey -v" into someone's .cshrc. It makes it use vi-style key bindings... Yes with insert mode and command mode...

Nope, still says "techsupport" rather than "google".

Possibly you need to learn how to use a search engine. Or maybe read. Start with the User Information for this group.

HTH, HAND, FOAD.
