"Tech support is actually code for: "No one is here, no one has ever been here. We could give a shit. You didn't pay enough for this thing in the first place and besides, it works by magic." -- Lewis Black
mm. Tech support is actually code for "We're trying to help you - despite you threatening our jobs, our lives and treating us like shit day in and day out. Now STFU and reboot, fucker."
He was ranting about queue times, and the fact that the particular manuf. he bought from charges 2.99$/minute for tech support.
The problem is that we're not responsible for 1 or 2 hour queue times. Management is. Planning and operations are. Whenever I worked for a big company's tech support, it was always for home users. I worked for the now obscure MicronPC, even larger mondo-corp dell and cox. All of which couldn't give a shit about regular users. They cared about accounts that dropped 10k on a piece of kit on a drop of a hat.
That's why it struck a nerve with me. Companies don't give a fuck, and the regular consumer isn't giving them enough money to care. Which was half the rant.
