I'm beginning to worry more and more about the state of humanity.

Two of yesterday's gems:

- Ok sir, can you please double-click on the cd drive... no? No icon on the desktop... ok, well, look inside 'my computer'. Do you see it there? Not sure? Oh... ok, look for an icon with a picture of a cd on it. You have two? What are they named? D and E. Charming. and on and on

- What do you mean ma'am that you can't get the usb cable out of the box? it actually took 5 min's for her to get the cable out and plugged in.

What disturbs me most is the fact that most people like that are more likely to reproduce than the intelligent ones. Stupidity must be very attractive.

Oy.

I'm sorry. I had a call a few months back where the "lady"'s manager's PC wouldn't boot up. After 45 min of troubleshootng, I was going to send a ticket up because the wiring was bad. Then I had a thought - maybe the surge protector blew!

...nope, it was plugged into itself.

Took her 5 min to find the tower, another 5 to find the power button

hehehe... was screamed at for 10 min's one night that I was insulting and rude. I'd asked them to check and make sure that the power was plugged in to the wall. So I made something up about wanting to make sure the outlet worked and had them plug a light into it, and then once it lighted, unplugged it and put the computer back in (for the first time). Power light came on that time. *L*

Where do you draw the line? I'm dialup/DSL tech support and some people end up needing full computer lessons. I've told people before that I'll put their account on hold until they go to the library or community college and take some computer classes, because I couldn't help them.

unfortunately we weren't allowed to draw the line like that. we HAD to help the customer...

and we weren't even a s/w desk...

I'm allowed to dump them off ONLY if I can prove that the connection is there. If they're able to ping, or pull up one website, they're gone. It's a pain to get them there, but we couldn't dump just because they were computer illiterate (or as they say "I'm not very compooter uh-literate").

I feel the pain. I remember one guy being upset at how long his boot up process was. He'd always just unplugged the power when he turned the computer off. scandisk hated him.

My personal peeve is that once you ask someone to 'right-click' during troubleshooting, from that point on they will ask "right or left" for every 'click'.

nah. it was in the cardboard box that the modem came in. If it had been in the computer at least I would have understood why it was hard to get out.
