Don't you love it when people call you about a problem with something other than a computer, because they think if it has electricity, its an IT problem?

Voicemail: Richard, this is . Our copy machine is broken. Usually we call the Xerox technician but give me a call and let me know what to do.

My response: Hey . I don't support copiers. If you usually call a technician, that's fine with me. If you want to set it on fire, that's fine too.

We both chuckled!

or if you support software you get calls from people asking about something totally different than what your company makes/supports. I don't know home many time I've had to tell people "sorry you'll have to call quark about that, we don't make quark xpress here"

forgive the typo, should be "how manytimes" not home many, was on the phone with an irritant as i typed that, maybe it was a subliminal thought of where i'd rather be, hehe.

I work for a small company in a 2 person IT group. If it plugs into a wall our users expect us to fix it. I've gotten calls to support space heaters -- they were very disappointed when we then wandered around and unplugged all of the space heaters that were plugged into power strips because of the fire hazard (we actually had a space heater melt a power strip once!).

Would you believe a Sewing Machine?

Keep getting annoyed emails from one local woman with sewing machine problems.

I work for MCI Canada, we do Internet, Hosting, VPNs, and some dial stuff(VoIP). No Sewing Machines.

The US phone/cell customers are bad enough (At least they have the right corp, wrong country though).

umm

Friend of mine, when he was at Nortel, got a call to fix a broken toilet.

He told the guy, "Look, I only fix things with electricity running through them. If there's electricity running through the toilet, you probably shouldn't use it."
