Note to the management team:

I know you're hiring a new salesman and you decided he could work from home and you want to know when he's sleeping and when he wakes and whether he's been bad or good . . . but for goodness sakes!

Here's a tip: if you don't trust this guy, don't hire him. bottom line. Nobody is going ot her you big brother them 24/7. he can find any number of other j obs that don't require a blood screening every day.

Furthermore, and I know this is wacky, but if he's a salesman and he's not doing any work, you'll know real soon. You know, due to the lack of business? And you can fire him. Happy?

Just because I have the technology to do somehting doesn't mean you have the right to.

They're claiming a right to monitor his off-the-clock activities?

There should be prison time attached to that.

I hope the company made him sign a pretty comprehensive release stating all that. Otherwise the company could have a pretty big lawsuit on their hands. Even then those agreements typically are only good for working hours. If the company bought the computer for him I think they can monitor beyound work hours as it is company property. But if he is using his own PC that he purchased...that could be a lot of trouble. Good article on employers spying on employees here:

In my place, the only time we investigate user's computing habits are if we suspect a violation of our (currently lousy) computer useage policy, and it's usually something that is supervisor initiated.

That having been said, This year I've done two such investigations, whereas last year I did none. And I've also found additional tools to help me with this little endevour.

Also: all of our employees have to pass a Fingerprint check with the state in order to remain hired.
