one of the worse things about the tech support field. Is that Even though, you are a computer geek. Even though you actually know more about computers then the onsite tech teams. You are not "allowed" to fix your own machine if it gets a virus or fucks up.

YEAH!!

I'm glad I don't have this problem in my current job. But oh how I feel your pain.

ha... I cracked the administrator password on the box that I always used at one of my old jobs. Ran like a dream after that. Thank god for Window's poor password encryption.

Our policy is pretty lax, fortunatley. And if I get asked how come my floppy drive was disconnected and a second drive was added so I could boot into Linux...well...the Gnomes did it!

The only reason why I asked if I could nuke my work laptop was because it used to be my (ex) bosses, and I wanted to make sure that it was safe to do so. And boy does it run a bit better after getting rid of all the crap that was on there.

Unfortuantely, I had to do it during my "off time", mostly because it was a project I wanted to do.

Our IS helpdesk:

"Technically, you're not supposed to do that yourself, but... I didn't see nothin'."

At the last company I worked for, we weren't even allowed to clean our own mousewheels...

Guh!

You must be joking, mind you in my company it feels like the L1 techs arent allowed to touch anything related to the mirrored install/e-mail/hardware or any licensed software exceeding £100...
