I was about to go on shift, and my coworker got this call:
Prof: The internet is down! It's broken!
Coworker: Okay, are you using wireless or with an ethernet cable?
P: I'm in MY OFFICE. note: where there is wireless access
C: All right, so with a cable? Can I get you to do something for me? Are you using OS X? Go to system--
P: It's been BROKEN ALL WEEK, I've done ALL the troubleshooting, it's BROKEN. note: all week is the previous day and that day
C: Sir, I can only do something about the issue if I get some preliminary information from you. Can you please go to--
P: It's BROKEN, I HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. *hangs up*
In the five minutes after that I get two calls from professors who say that they're not able to access the internet or email and they let me get their IP address and discover that the DHCP server is down.
I realize that having the internet go down is very frustrating and disrupts activities, but honestly. If you wanted to tell us that the internet was down and you had to go to class, shouting and probably exaggerating the problem isn't going to really get that message across. Apparently such dramatic behavior is common for this professor. What a nice man, remind me to take a class from him.
