Get a backup
Nov. 9th, 2005 08:21 amWhen your business depends on the internet (i.e. you think you will go bankrupt
if your internet is down for a day/few hours) you should have a backup.
Power outages happen, people drive into telephone poles, tornados happen, yadda
yadda. I have no pity for you!

Date: 2005-11-09 04:34 pm (UTC)One placed I worked for did high speed internet at appartment complexes. God, I never heard a bigger bunch of whiners that were using a residential connection to run their business from, in violation of the T&Cs of their contract. We let it slide only because we did not have the authority to yank them. (We did the support and some legwork. The "network administrator" and the money went to an entirely different company)

Date: 2005-11-09 10:53 pm (UTC)"Well for an additiona 50 dollars a month, I would be happy to assist you with upgrading your account to the superior service and performance of our business class online service!"
The only difference between the residential service and business service was that business cost 50 more dollars a month, and we wouldn't rate cap them for uploading too much - otherwise it was the same equipment and everything else.
I always enjoyed the idiots that would call up screaming about how their service is down and they are losing "thousands of dollars a day!", when their account is deactivated for non-payment.

Date: 2005-11-09 08:38 pm (UTC)Me: I do apologize but just to let you know that running a business on a residential internet connection is aginst the Terms of Service you agreed to when signing up. [gives link to the TOS] If you would like a business connection I can contact them to call you back regarding it.
Dumb broad who runs a business: No! It's not against THE LAW to do this. I can run a business if I want to on MY internet.
