What a morning, and I've not even been here an hour. Here's a recap:

- One man that didn't understand what "lower case" meant. Me: Make sure you're typing your password in all lower case. Him: I don't understand. Me: No capital letters? Him: What's that? Me: All small letters? Him: *light bulb goes off* Me: *head explodes*

- A woman that called back every three minutes to see if I had fixed her poplock problem yet. I told her to give me at least 20 minutes originally to wait for the gigantic (36 megs of email for a dialup user -_-) mail file to get from the mail server back to her shell account so I could fix things up for her. About 10 minutes into it, she tried to access her mailbox (which kicks me out of pine on her shell and basically makes me start from the beginning) and then angrily called me back to tell me it wasn't working yet.

and then this call:

Me: blahblah.net this is miharu
Her: Hi. I've been a customer for 5 years and rambleramble life story nothing interesting or relevant whatsoever. Did I mention that I speak really slowly and ask you after every sentance if you understand the gist of what I'm saying? Mind if I tell you about my sick dog?
Me: (polite) Okay. What seems to be the problem?
Her: Well, I just switched servers and I cancelled with blahblah.net and I spent an hour on the phone with the new server deleting all of your software (note: we provide no software other than an optional dialer, which 95% of our customers don't use. But that's no big deal.) and setting up their settings. Now when I try this new server, it doesn't work? I think it's possible that it reverted to your settings. That's what my new server said.
Me: That doesn't seem very plausible, once you delete a Windows internet setting and click ok then restart your computer, it's pretty much in the abyss.
Her: My new server told me that's what happened, that your settings came back and overwrote theirs. Now you should fix it for me. (note: WTF? We have malicious zombie net settings? Rock! Why didn't they tell me when I started?)
Me: I'm sorry ma'am, but if you've already cancelled with us and you had your new service advise you on deleting our settings and setting up theirs, then you should contact them about what they did with you. Since you're no longer a customer of blahblah.net I can't really provide support for something another ISP has done for you.
Her: But I was a customer for so long. (note: Customer loyalty doesn't mean much if you're no longer loyal to the company. It doesn't really mean much anyway, noone should get special treatment.)
Me: I'm sorry ma'am, but if it's something we didn't set up with you then I can't fix it.
Her: (dejected/sarcastic) Thanks for the help.
Me: (cheerful) Have a nice day.

I think I just overheard another tech talk a customer out of trying to bring email spammers to court.

Next time Gadget, next time.

*laughs* Do you read usr/bin/w00t (http://www.io.com/~holychao/)? It's like the user friendly for linux chicks. It's soooo good. Gotta love those calls in which they tell you their life story... "Well, I moved here back after 'nam..." *giggles*
