Users do the craziest things
May. 12th, 2003 07:14 pmOk, I got a funny story to relate... you remember a couple days ago, when I said a certain person made me run all the way out to her desk to remove a floppy disk from her PC so she could boot up? Well, I got another call from her today.
She's been hounding us for a new laptop for a while now (understandably so, she's using a relic). However, tech support does not do any purchasing, the business line does, and her manager put a freeze on any new purchases. Of course, it's still our fault.
Anyway, back to the story. She called today, claiming that she couldn't connect to the network. She also stated that her PCMCIA ethernet card was "Loose". I went out there, and she had already "fixed" her problem by jiggling the card around. She then went on to complain (again) about how awful tech support was where we work, since it took us so long to respond that she had to fix it herself (took me 10 minutes to get there).
Bearing all that stoically (I have no desire to get fired over a rude comment to this person), I asked her what she meant by her NIC being "loose".
"Well, look at this," she said, and yanked her NIC out of her laptop. I stood there in stunned amazement while she waggled the card at me. A moment later, she said, "Hey, why did my print job fail?"
I still can't believe that I managed to keep a straight face while I told her that it was because she had just disconnected herself from the network. Naturally, she had to reboot to regain connectivity (We're on NT, and it don't like sudden disconnects). The look on her face as she realized that she did a very stupid thing has been added to the list of my prized memories.
Oh, and I found out she's leaving the company. Look out, she might be your problem soon!

For His next miracle, I shall pray to receive this woman's email address. :)
Good thing I don't do tech support any longer. :) I just get the biggest kick out of reading stories like these.
