We are in Phoenix. Our NOC is in the midwest. We often use IM to chat online regarding different issues.

noc: Good evening
ME: hola
noc: how's the internet connection at your office? no problems?
ME: not that I have seen
ME: umm.. we're chatting online right?
noc: heh, true :)

Hehehehe! ^_^ We have an internal IRC server for communication between sites in Texas and it is probably the only thing that has kept me sane in this job, especially since we have a hidden channel that we rant and bitch in all we like. :D

Actually, there have been times where I've been totally unable to surf the web but my AIM connection has held strong. (DNS issues, maybe?)

My setup has a DSL link for internet and a DSL link to the colo, so in theory I can be using IM ok, but internet can be down.

They might have thought the same thing.
