I'm trying to uninstall tons of stuff on my computer, but some of it says things like "cannot find uinstall.whatever" and I just want to remove it all from my cpu so I can upgrade to Windows XP (im using my windows xp now while im trying to get my other computer to work, heh.) anyway, its becoming annoying and the computer place around here kinda overprices so i dont wanna take it in. my cousin works with computers but i see him in july and i dont wanna wait that long to upgrade, and he might not becoming to my house, we may go to his. (and ill feel kinda stupid bringing my computer there ;) anyway, maybe you guys know what to do?

ahh, helllllp. i neeed xp!

pretty much is there a program out there that deletes a whole bunch of stuff? when i put the reboot cd in (to clear the WHOLE computer) it freezes. so urghhhh. help.

Backup your data and Reformat.

Uninstall is for the weak.

Uninstall never works cleanly. It either leaves extra crap everywhere or deletes needed .DLL's.

Format & reinstall is the only safe way to upgrade MS OS's.

Upgrades works on Mac's, FreeBSD and Debian, and that's about it.

Doing "upgrades" of Microsoft OS is a bad idea. It never works right..ever. You're better off reformatting the drive and starting over with a clean install.

here... this should probably help you more than if I just wrote a bunch of commenty things:

Windows XP Clean Install Guide

Once you get past the "format" step; you should have uninstalled the previous windows :)

you most certainly have [livejournal.com profile] goneinsane if you think you NEED XP. If you're just trying to remove everything, there's three options:

C:\del *.*

or

A:\format c: /FS:"NTFS"

Both will pretty much erase everything on your disk.

Just a re-assuring you and myself that yes, I can work a computer better than I can count.

The third option was to rub a magnet over your hard drive... it'll work, but i sincerely discourage you from it...

FDISK, FORMAT, and install new OS. If you want a real upgrade, try Red Hat 9.1.

Yup! The boxed version is 9.1 so 9.0 is available for DL.

the one thing that migth have been missed, dont upgrade, install XP from scratch, it can install and reformat during its install process.
