I wonder what is going to happen if I include this in IT department task schedule as a critical issue. Too bad I am not that evil because I can imagine our Chief Executive when he sees it.

And I love it when something like that is logged as critical, you don't notice that fact immediately because it is such a stupid call, you put it on the "I'll get round to it in about a week" queue, and then your SLAs go down the toilet...

I think you should include it in the task schedule and then point at the idiot that logged the call when your boss objects. Maybe then fewer people will stop sending you such crap (or at least prioritise the crap correctly).

Reminds me of a hard lesson that we taught an entire helpdesk about proper severity levels when opening tickets. (I used to work a temp job as a ticket dispatcher for a larger aerospace company waay back in '97)
I'll see if I can't find the paper copies of the ticket (and the one it refered to) and OCR them for your veiwing pleasure tonight.

I would suggest a workaround for this, but it involves connecting a large and heavy hammer at a certain amount of speed to the back of the head of the person who submitted it. It would solve the problem, by removing from the gene pool an idiot who obviously can't figure out how to communicate without smileys.

Of course, if they've already bred, it means you'll have to go and check out the kiddies too - hopefully they've inherited at least some genes from the more sensible side of the family. Although...
