A woman complained to me that she could not access files left behind by someone who used to work in her department. I explained as the woman no longer worked in this building, she was no longer a user on our server, which is why logging in as her was going to get her no where.

She knew for SIX months that this woman would be leaving. She tried to log in as her ONE WEEK AFTER she left.

Since I knew the documents were still stored in the server, I retrieved them and burned them to a cd for her.

I handed her the cd and rather than a thank you, or a sigh of relief or anything similar, she looked alarmed. Because she had no idea what to do with it.

Because she had no idea what to do with it.

Now I'm alarmed. Seriously alarmed.

That brings to mind a wonderful quote:

"The letters are Hex, of an ancient mode, but the language is that of Microsoft, which I shall not utter here. But in common English this is what it says:

One OS to rule them all, One OS to find them,
One OS to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

Fortunately for you, I left the cluebat at home (along with my leashescellphones) today.

The joke would be funnier if you replaced M$ with COBOL. or some other ancient, creeping horror of a programming language.

Aw, should have charged her a couple hundred dollars for it. That would have driven the point home.

Boy, I need to get out more.
