I am on vacation, and I am SOOOO logging this time as time owed!

I am on vacation this and next week. I got a call yesterday from work. My mom works at the same place, so I thought it was her... WRONG.. this is one of the most bizzare conversation about computer stuff I have had with our Sr. Graphics Person. Mind you, I know more about graphics than they do.. they don't even understand photoshop, or their Mac OR anything for that fact. Does great layout work, I will give her that, as long as its Quark and nothing else, when it comes to any other program... eyee aye ayeee, don't ask them to do a photo touch up... eeesh." (Did I mention that I am the web designer?)

CW: "Did you order the computers yet?"
Me: "I ordered them two weeks ago, I sent out an email."
CW: "What if they get here while you are gone?"
Me: "They sit in the box"
CW: "Don't we need these hooked up though? Aren't they for new staff?"
Me: "No, everyone has a working computer... its just that three of them are on their last legs, and I give them till next month before they die completely. They week wait won't be horriffic."

(Note... she has no seniority over me, she was probably told to ask by my Supervisor, because well... I send out emails and updates for no reason at all.... sigh)

CW: "Oh, BTW, we can't get on your computer."
Me: "I know"
CW: "Why"
Me: "Changed the password"
CW: "Why?"
Me: "My Boss at the Head Dept, said I had to for the new security stuff."
CW: "Can I have it?"
Me: "No"
CW: "I need to scan a picture" (note, if I am there, I let them use the scanner, I am the only one there."
Me: "It's not hooked up to my computer, disk is in the black file, take the whole thing and hook it to yours."
CW: "Really?"
Me: "Um... yeah.... unless you want to wait to weeks."
CW: "Thanks.... ohhhh question.."
Me: "Yeah?"
CW: "When you get back, I have about 300 pictures that need to be cleaned up for the annual report. I need them by September 18th."
Me: "Sigh.... Fine, I'll bring them home if I have to... are they digital?"
CW: "Yeah......"
Me: "Have you done anything to them yet?"
CW: "No, I was going to resize them, but then I remembered I never do them right."
Me: "Good, just put them on a CD rom, and give them to my mom."
CW: "Okay.....are you sure?"
Me: "Yeah, that way I know I have them."
CW: "GREAT!"..."Oh... I need more changes to the website, BOSS wants xyz added."
Me: "CW... send me an email... I gotta go now."
CW: "Oh, okay..... btw? I thought you were in GA?"
Me: "I am, you called my cell #"
CW: "Ohhhhhhh... sorry"


Ya know... why me... why me... I seem to be the only one with a brain in that institution, at least when it comes to comptuers. I can run just about any Adobe or Microsoft program, I can trouble shoot both Mac and PC (she has the only mac btw....talk about crimping my budget) I can even work with Quark, not to mention all the "proprietary software" for camp registration, auctions and the like... NO ONE ELSE KNOWS ANY OF THIS, and I keep BEGGING, BEGGING for my boss to hire ONE OTHER COMPUTER LITERATE PERSON... just one.

Sigh... time to explain to my SUPERVISOR (who is not the same as boss) that I AM NOT ON CALL 24/7... they don't pay me enough for that. No, I am not in GA yet, I will be late tomorrow though. Yeah, I know all about the gass.. but I am CAMPING, so I aint going anywhere till next monday late anywho, or TUES am. I will be fine.

Eeeeeshhhhhh... I can't take a vacation to save my life.

I acutally grabbed my husband's cell phone out of his hands one day and politely asked his boss to reschedule this vacation day since HE SHOT IT ALL TO HELL. Good thing the boss knows me and knows I saved his ass on a consult gig I did for the company. *wink*
