Aug. 18th, 2005 05:36 pmi am currently explaining to the knology technical support person how to telnet to a mail server on port 25 versus just putting in telnet (mailserver) and having telnet default to port 23 which of course isn't going to work.
shoot.
me.

(xposted to my journal, trying to spread the pain around)
yesterday at 1am was the last time i authenticated to any of my MANY email servers i use. valiskeogh.com , valissoft.com , helpdeskhell.com, jackosuicidewatch.com
after 1am i'm getting can't connect ox800cccoe errors.
of course they explain that i should be using knology servers.
fine. created account using knology servers, they immediately close the connection with an 0f error (server unexpectedly terminated connection)
yesterday they sent my info to the sysadmins, their response is "he should be able to send email using knology servers".
if i knew where this place was... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Date: 2005-09-06 10:39 pm (UTC)the issues was finally resolved but i had to go completely around knology tech support by scamming the lowly level 1 techs into giving me the NOC number (not hard to do), got in touch with someone there who DID know his ass from a hole in the ground. his question to me wasn't "boot up in safe mode", but instead was "what's your modem's mac address?"
and when he checked that it was exactly as i had figured, but which was impossible to communicate to the tech's. my modem had been mis-provisioned. it was listed as knology service, which has blocked port 25, but the ip address i pulled was from another address space, which made the mail server block access to smtp.knology.net.
MAKING ME DEAD IN THE WATER.
once the modem was provisioned correctly, everything was back to working.
