I've heard people call their tower a monitor, "that box", and many other things.
I just took a call where the guy kept calling his computer a "power unit".
that made me giggle.

We get a lot of people that call it a modem.

Or a hard drive.

Or a CPU, but those aren't nearly as frequent as they used to be.

I used to do that years ago but only because I started off on a PCjr, and the part that wasn't the keyboard or the monitor pretty much WAS the CPU. heh

We got the "modem" thing a lot at Dell. Now that I do internal tech support, most of the people I deal with have their tower under their desk and refuse to acknowledge that it is part of the computer at all.

When I tell my lusers to bring their machine in to the shop ('cause I'm lazy, and frankly I don't want to drive around in 110+ tempuratures), I tell em to bring the box portion of the computer, and no keyboard and mouse, because that's all I want, and it makes sense in their tiny, cramped minds. I say this because they have a fuckton of work related stuff going on, and I don't want to confuse them anymore then I already do...

Over here, it's mostly referred to as "the drive" (כונן in Hebrew, pronounced "konan", with the accent on "a").
