Save =/= Save As

User: [gives info]
ME: Hello User, this is Klytus. What can I do for you.
User: I'm a complete idiot and I probably know the answer, but I need to ask.
ME: (never a good sign) Yes, sir?
User: Is there any way to un-save a file?
ME: Un-save a file? You made changes to a file, then saved it, but need to original version?
User: Yes. I hit "save" instead of "save as" and just lost 17 hours of work and need to recover it.
ME: Unfortunately, you've overwritten the original file. I can't get that back for you.
User: Is there any other way to recover it?
ME: If you have a backup with the original copy of that file on it, we can. Otherwise, sorry.
User: [Insert much swearing and self-depreciating remarks about what a moron he is here]

At least he was venting his ire in the right direction.

Ah, see, the joys of NAS servers. We have an option called ~snapshot (it's a hidden folder) which allows hourly backups to stop at least some of those truly braindead callers from becoming psychotic. Or at least, a little bit less psychotic.

Well, at least he asked a legit question. He knew he made a mistake, and he took a stab at trying to correct it.

I'll take those calls over "Can you reset my password for the 5th time today" calls anyday.

Agreed. I've just never had a user so readily admit that the problem he was having was his own fault. I simply had to share.

If he still has the program up, and depending on what program it is... "control + z" about fifty times? Sucks though, that's for sure.

Unfortunately, this was a situation where he had shut down the computer, opened his file the next day, and realized what he'd done.
