The next user that veiws an attachment in Outlook, makes changes, then saves it to the same attached file with out saving to a separate location, and then cries to me wanting me to pull their changes out of the temp files libmo of Outlook is going to get dick whipped in the eye!

Man, that's pathetic. It's almost as bad as people saying something like "Umm, ok, I deleted this message/file/etc and emptied the trash bin, but now I want it back." Yeah, that'll happen. It's technically a possibility (not a certainty mind you), but guess what... I'm internet tech support. You're on your own if you delete/change something.

I like to tell them something along the lines of "Think of it this way. If you take a piece of paper, and throw it into a fire... it's not coming back." or some such. It's usually somewhat random what 'act of destroying something you want to take back' I relate it to.

One of the people in my group for my master's degree did that and blamed the computer. It was our group project. Due that day. And yes, she managed to graduate with the rest of us. Sheesh.

I've lost faith in it too. I was told getting my master's would get me off the phones in Tier I tech support. I believed them. After all, I know a VP of finances in IBM who has a master's. HE certainly doesn't do Tier I tech support. Now that I have my master's I have been told that I will need my doctorate to get out of Tier I.

You ought to come work here. There are two prerequisites to getting promoted here: not having "an education," whatever they mean by that, and not having a clue. Since you have a clue, you've only got 50% of the prospects of someone with no clue and "no education," but that's still a great deal more than I have. ;)

Would you like the job? Then stop training your own roadblocks. You have the experience; you obviously know what the position needs to do. Tell the relevant people they have a choice: you or no-one. Finding a way to 'justify' the decision is their problem, not yours. At the moment, you're doing their job for them and making it harder on yourself in the process.

I apologize if I sound harsh, but I've run into this palming-off technique before. Usually five minutes before I go and tear some avatar of incompetence a new orifice.

I agree - you also quite have the ability to point out just what has happened to the last four people in the position. You're still here and always did your job, and just might have a chance at surviving the promotion. Some of the most effective people in the world have had the shittiest resumes (in fact, the perfect looking resumes out there make me suspicious).

In the past I have, this is a different situation this time however, too much to explain but a few quick points

I blew one interview (well the flu did) Hoever the manager did give a 20% raise, just not the 50% that would come with the Promotion.

other issues came up lately, I have been moving forward, just not all that fast. Its been frustration, and honestly I had a meeting today that helped get me past certain bitterness.
