Thought for you...
Mar. 20th, 2003 12:57 pmHad a thought today... When a computer running Windows XP starts up, and the login screen appears, you must choose a username and then enter the password. Is there a key combination that would allow you to input a different user name? To use the Guest or Administrator account, for example, as opposed to the other users created for the computer by the computer user/administrator.

Date: 2003-03-20 04:42 pm (UTC)There is a bug in XP Home (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B327918) that will cause the account to display under a very specific set of circumstances; those being when the computer's name is 'administrator' and Msgina.dll cannot perform the appropriate lookup in order to exclude the account from display. It may even be possible for the account to be renamed to whatever the name of the computer is, causing the same problem, but as I do not have XP Home, I cannot test this hypothesis.
Re: If
Date: 2003-03-20 04:47 pm (UTC)i knew wasn't crazy
Date: 2003-03-20 04:54 pm (UTC)specifically...here's an example of how it is done...
Show Administrator on the Welcome Screen (Windows XP Professional)
Open your registry and find or create the key below.
Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called "Administrator" and set it according to the value data below.
Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\
SpecialAccounts\UserList]
Value Name: Administrator
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (1 = show Administrator)
So, I'm not crazy. ;p
