It started early this morning:

User: The firewall is broken.
me: Oh, is your internet not working?
User: no it's fine, but I just got some junk mail.

They do say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

I was reading a tech-support note today for some product...

Oh yea, an automated RMA mailer - supposed to get the credit RMA number in 24 hours or so.

It warned me that if I don't get it in 24 hours, my firewall could be broken.

Gahhh!

I feel your pain.

I work in an internet cafe. If it's a buzzword, it's being misused. Especially by people who arn't confident enough to own a computer, but wouldn't want anyone to know that so they cover it up by "initating a contact with your firewall MSN server". That meant he wanted to send an email.

I love it when they learn one little thing. The biggest thing at my job is they learn 'ipconfig', not release or renew or even flushdns, just ipconfig. Then they procede to tell me 'they have an IP address' (when it's a 169) or everytime I have them open the command prompt they butt in and ask 'So, you want me to run ipconfig?' like they're so smart. It makes me want to punch people.

Ususally, even if I was going to go with ipconfig, and they bring it up like they're smart or something, I'll have them ping instead. I'm not giving them any satisfaction.
