(sorry if this dbl posts, it didn't seem to work ??)

You’re not going to believe this one, (stupidity is in abundance at our place).
Honestly this couldn’t be more stupid if I made it up.
Me, sitting at my desk, (open office)

Them: Oh there you are, you should be able to help me with this - then hands me his watch!!

Me: ermmm, (take a couple on seconds to get over the surprise) I don’t really know anything about watches I fix computers.

Them: *name* from *dept* was going to throw it out but they said I could have it but it doesn’t work.

Me: (being naturally helpful) I open the back of the watch anyway.
Where I find no battery.

Me: There’s no battery, you need a new one

Them: Oh, do you think I should get one then?

Me: erm yes.

Them: Do you have any batteries?

Me: Of course I do, I wake up in the morning pick up my car keys, wallet and a variety of batteries just in case I need them for the watch I DON’T WEAR!!!! – You Bloody Retard, go away and stop wasting my time.

Ok - so the last bit is what I was thinking, by the time it passed through my brain it transformed into, no I haven’t any watch batteries, try the Mall across the road.

To top off yesterday, I then get a woman telling me the printer doesn’t work while handing me a piece of paper with the error message on it :
“Tray Empty”

I am going insane.

"Yair, I could fix that, you'd need some parts, cost ya about a hundred bucks but I'll do it for fifty."

need to get a policy. Any non company equipment handed to tech support personel during business hours will become the property of the individual.

in a tech support community

and as for strange things i have been asked to fix

Computers

Now that may seem tongue in cheek but the real humor is that my current job is
[drumroll]
Shipping Director
I am supposed to make sure all shipments go out on a daily basis, yet we have no tech (and the onsite geek who is sorta responsible, it isnt his main job and he keeps asking me for help) and I apparently am toi willing to play tech

Digital camera, stand-alone DVD burner/copier, ELMO unit, projector, VCR, and a brochure one of the custodians is putting together to help his son get out of jail

Apparently, if it even remotely resembles technology, or vaguely uses technology, I must support it.

Reminds me of the time when I was the one-and-only computer tech at a small company. The Big Boss had me designing forms because they were built using XL. Then there was the time I had to help him make a calendar showing the time-table of chustody of children with his soon-to-be-ex-wife because it was using the color printer.

Heh.

Yeah, I got smacked for attempting to help a user out with a replacement power supply for a folding machine. ::sigh::

and I have what is apparently, the company's only corporate owned PDA sitting on my desk. It needs a battery, but it's an ancient device, and not of much use to anyone.
