Just finished up an argument with one of God's special little children from our sales team, who wanted me to get our 3rd level tech to call one of her high priority customers.

To help him arrange billing at a new postal address.

I point out that this sounds like a job for customer services. She points out there's a ten-minute wait for customer services, and she doesn't want to call them. I inform her that tech support staff don't have access to the billing database. She points out there's a ten-minute wait for customer services, and she doesn't want to call them. I mention that 3rd level currently have a two-day backlog of work to do. She points out there's a ten-minute wait for customer services, and she doesn't want to call them. I suggest that it would be a waste of our senior technician's considerable skills to deal with a billing matter. She points out there's a ten-minute wait for customer services, and she doesn't want to call them.

You've been whining at me for more than ten minutes, you dizzy bitch!

Dear entire sales team who keep pulling this shit: go eat a dick.

Don't let someones job ever pressure you. It is your job as an IT professional to save the company as much money as possible doing your job, keeping the technology working. If they presist, inform them that it would cost more to the company for a senior technician being pulled from critical work assignments then one billing can handle. Besides, if a 3rd level tech is pulled from something important, and there is a critical network emergency, then everyone is affected, and the company loses money because the one guy who could fix the problem isn't there to do his/her job.

Let them whine and cry for special treatment all they want, and when they don't get there way, explain things to management in terms of money. Always money. They understand that.

"There's a ten-day wait for I.T. services. Would you like to hold?"

When I say 'God', I mean 'the CEO'. The sales team are the CEO's favourite people on Earth. :(

They pay for his yacht, after all.

Sad, but true. Sales can get away with murder because they are the one actively generating revenue while the pathetic IT Techs are just "overhead". I swear, one of these days I would love to see a poorly treated IT department stage a one-day walkout when the computers go crazy, just to show the Corporate Gods how important the "overhead" are so the Moneymaking Sales Saints can actually do their friggin' jobs.
