I think I used it... once, when the machine's built in A/V was waay out of dat and it had a modern virus on it.

Besides, Free A/V software does Exist...

I mean, I use housecall if I want to really make sure, but not as my primary and ONLY means of AV. Running wide open on the net is like using a 6 year old condom.

That's what we use at home, and we're not only techies, but have our own repair business. Housecall, Ad-Aware, and Anti-Spyware Beta have never failed us. If they ever do, hell, it's probably time for an OS reinstall, anyhow. :D

Yes, I can understand that. It's a sound plan. I've just seen computers without AV get nailed by viruses. I refuse to open myself up to that, you know?

While I agree with you, at least look at it this way - they are actually bothering to run some form of antivirus, unlike some of my customers, who think that Norton 2001 is all they ever need (with the 6 month free update subscription expired). :) They were ever so puzzled when I explained it had to be kept up to date!

To each their own. I imagine if you have everything backed up, it's not that big a deal. I just prefer to have something there to make sure I don't get infected. Perhaps I'm just paranoid.
