I know there are people internationally who read this community.

I don't know what it is like around the rest of the world, but in the USA, there is a growing concern in the corporate IT industry (Amongst the employees) about the outsourcing of IT jobs, especially helpdesk/call center work to other countries, particularly India.

I have found the solution to this problem. Some of the India staff have been treated to trips to our corporate headquarters recently, to see the enviroment they are supporting.

Know what I found out?

Techies, regardless of where they are from, seem to love Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

Thats right, so next time you lose your job stateside to corporate downsizing and outsourcing, just remember, take the inititive and open a doughnut franchise in India.

I had a lady call in (to her ISP, that's me) because she didn't want to give her personal information to people in India. She was having trouble with her HP printer (which as her ISP, I cannot help her with) and wanted me to do something about it because 'I'm in America'. I told her I can do the same things with her information that someone in India can and that may be her only choice.

People are way too paranoid about giving out personal information. There's nothing I can do with your name and address, or even the last four digits on your SSN.

Ugh. We have Tim Horton's here. Hockey player (dough)nuts are, believe it or not, far more preferable to donuts that melt in your mouth because they haven't been fully cooked. Maybe it's just the local variant.

But I suppose there's something the British brought to India that makes its American counterpart pale in comparison..... cricket :). Let's see how many whiny overpaid jocks can deal with being out just because someone threw them an easy shot, with one more at-bat if it's not a one DAY match :).

Tim Horton doughnuts used to be awesome; since they started baking them offsite and trucking them into the individual stores, they are tasteless and gluey. The cookies aren't bad, though.

I think it depends where your store is. Our area I think still bakes everything in each individual store, but I could just not be noticing. I am a tech after all, I'm supposed to be tasteless :).

If they're still baking them fresh in your area, then lucky you. :)

I think it started around the time they combined with Wendy's, but I could be wrong about that. I know I'd noticed they weren't as good before finding out that they were no longer baking onsite (at least around here).

We used to have one or two Tim Hortons and 20-odd Robins Donuts. Then, the smoking ban came into effect, drastically cutting down the customer base. Then Tim Hortons started steamrolling, opening a dozen new stores, many of them near extant Robins Donuts, one of them over top of the best independant coffeeshop in town... Bought the lease out from under them and sent them packing. Now, Robin's Donuts couldn't compete, and went under... So now we're stuck with 'em.

Why oh why did you mention Krispy Kreme? Now I have to stop there on my way home. There is no avoiding it.

They've just come to the Boston area recently, but they have yet to gain a foothold. There are a few here and there but not many. Dunkin Donuts is the key player here. It is absolutely amazing, in Massachusetts it is not uncommon to see them only 100 feet apart, and they ALL do good business.

This city loves its coffee.

You know, I moved to Cal. from the midwest a few years back. In flyover country, there are Krispy Kreme stores everywhere. I drove past 3 on my way to work. Here, people will drive 40 miles each way to pick up a box of Krispy Kremes. It's the damndest thing ever.

(And heck, if I eat one, I feel the need to brush my teeth continuously for hours!)
