My favorite thing to do with those customers is to reply with a barrage of questions: Are you using the regular site or the secure site? What happens when you try to send mail? Are you receiving a popup error message or a bounceback? What does it say? What happens if you try the same thing with, say, a Yahoo or Hotmail email address? Does this happen with everyone you try to send email to, or just to one particular address/domain? Have you tried using a mail program as opposed to Web mail? What sort of connection are you using? Is it a different type from the Internet connection you have at home?

They're usually too lazy to answer the questions in my reply, and I never hear from them again.

What is the origin of the phrase "like chalk and cheese", and why are they deemed to be opposites?

The phrase comes from the English county of Wiltshire, roughly divided by the London/Bristol commercial route. To the north of it the sheep bred for their wool grazed on the chalk grasslands of the Marlborough Downs, while to the south there is the Vale of Pewsey and valleys of the rivers Avon and Kennet, where on the green pasturelands dairy herds fed, providing milk and cheese.
