Thieving technicians
Apr. 28th, 2005 12:50 pmA professor called in today with a direct question: "A computer won't work if there's no RAM in it, right?"
Well, yes, pretty much.
Turns out she bought an older surplus computer, and it was working to some degree, booted into Windows, etc. She had a technician come out and do some work on it but she didn't say what kind of work.
She says after he left, she tried to turn on the computer and it wouldn't boot at all. She opened up the case to find that there were no RAM sticks in the slots at all, period. She has no idea if they were there before. My answer is they had to be there before, and the technicianstole misplaced them maybe.
She then tells me he was only suppposed to be reinstalling Windows and wasn't doing any hardware, but he did "for some reason". Hmm.
Luckily this was not one of our techs. Who would steal old ass memory so stupidly?
