We are *finally* abandoning all support for Windows 98 and ME on our network!

Of course the little old ladies and poor students who are still using it will still get support under some kind of grandfather clause, but next year we're going to have to insist they get 2000 or XP. Most of those people's computers can't handle that, so that kinda sucks that we'll be sort of forcing them to buy new computers.

I don't mind 98 so much but I'm glad the number of ME users that I have to support will be dropping significantly due to this.

Sweet, I wish we would do that.

You are aware that Windows 2000 support from Microsoft will run out in a couple of months? Shame. I really like Windows 2000 anyway :D

I know I'm going to get thumped on this... But I preferred ME to 98, and I guess 2000 too. And why make them swith to 2000? You should just have them move to XP (I know its niot you personally). While on that tip, I never felt bad about people having to buy new computers. Much like cars, the shitty ones need to be taken off the road. Unfortunately there is no state inspection for PCs.

Or at least run by competant vintage enthusiasts/mechanics. I can get a Mac Classic or Amiga on the net, but I don't expect my ISP to support it.

One of the perks of corporate support. "You're not using our highly specific hacked-up locked-down gutted spayed and neutered version of $OS? Format your hard disk."

Hah, we still regularly sell 98SE licenses - people use it to run old DOS software that won't run under 2K/XP...
