It's just probably not worth the hassle in most circumstances. Either way, it's a business decision, not a technical one, and the question belongs in the same class as "do you run a Usenet News server" and "Do you offer more than fifty megs free web space?"
Yes, the analog-over-digital-over-analogue thing is amusing, but sometimes the flexibility outweighs the overhead.
