Just got one of these

My friend gave me an Olivetti LSX 3030. I'm not sure if it even runs, but it's an interesting piece of tech.

Here's what one looks like (I haven't taken pics of mine yet)



Even has a 1-800 # on the side of it for tech support, doubt that one still works.

It runs X OS (based on system v rel 4)

I had a Xylog machine that was about the size of that.. it ran Xenix...

There was a 5Mb hard drive in the bottom that was the size of most desktop computers these days, and weighed twice as much.

It took three of us to eventually heave it into a dumpster =)

I'm going with ignorance here. What's the history/relevance of this box? In a some what related note... someday I will own a NeXT box. Weirdest old PC I've had was AT&T UNIX PC. It looked like an Apple II, had a 3 button mouse, ran unix and had a real fugly gui menu system. We had to crack the root password which took about 15 minutes. Turned out that the PC belong to the Chair of the IT department for the college of computer science where I was taking classes/working. Password was her son's first name. I guess passwords were supposed to be easy then, much like the movie "war games".
