Ok, welcome to Monday everyone. I know we all hate it because we have a case of the mondays, but I have another moronic customer. So what else is new?

Here we go...

Cust: "I have no internet connection."
Me: "Ok, well let's start off by resetting the modem and router."
Cust: "Do I have to? My husbands nervous about knocking his computers out."
Me: "Yes, you need to be willing to troubleshoot with me."

*after some hesitance, I finally get her to reset her modem, router, and pc. Windows XP machine is ready to go. *

Me: "Ok, let's start by checking the IP address. Do start, run, then type in CMD."
Cust: "C,M,P?"
Me: "No, D as in Dog."
Cust: "Ok, now I have a black window in front of me. What do I type in here?"
Me: "Type in ipconfig, then press enter."
Cust: "Ethernet adapter, blah blah blah Ip address XX.XX.XX.XX. Default gateway XX.XX.XX.XX."
Me: "Ok so we have all the proper info-"
Cust: "Default gateway. That makes sense. I have a gateway computer..."

*bwa?? laughs with mute button on*

So if your computer has a default gateway and it's a gateway computer...does that make a Sony computer have a Sony Gateway?

*headdesk*

No no no...it says default gateway and she has a gateway. So if you have a Sony it would say:

"Default Sony:"

We register MAC addresses...wanna know how often I get (after the explanation of what a MAC address is) "but it's not a Mac, it's a PC."

hats off to gateway for finding a way to exploit a general term and trademark it. Reminds me of the early 90s when the common folk thought america online was the only way to get "online".

You know there is a difference between stupidity and ignorance, right?

That used to be called the router by just about every OS. I wish it still was, because when lusers have a broadband router THAT'S WHAT THAT IP SHOULD BE.

Leave it to Microsoft. They decided to call it something different back in the Win3.11 days everyone else followed suit.
