Greetings. I have spent many years working in technical support and IT for various companies. I'm not working in the field right now because of "downsizing" and because my head finally exploded after my last position, fielding calls for multiple vendors and corporate help desks at the same time for an outsourcing company. I have a wealth of war stories, here's one of my favorites:

I recieved a call from a VAR ("Value Added Reseller". Anixter, Graybar, etc.) one day asking about product specs. Now, normally this would be Sales's job, but we all know what can happen when Sales tries to tell a customer what a product can and cannot do, so I took the call. Besides, it was a slow day. The model in question was a 2-port microswitch, 100baseFX to 10/100baseT, so basically it's a glorified media converter that can handle autonegotiation, right? The VAR rep asks me about the size. Silly me, I thought he meant dimensions....

VAR: "Do you have anything smaller?"
Me: "Well, the model number is pretty compact, it's about the size of a deck of cards...."
VAR: "No, I mean smaller. Do you make one with only one port?"
Me: "........."

Nice to meetcha all.
