And once again the masses are deleting files because they received an email not from the infamous IS/IT department but from a barely known coworker in another state. Yes obviously IS/IT is too overworked or stupid to notify you of something so important.

GARG!! Come on people, ever hear of a hoax or a malicious emails sent out by bored people who have nothing better to do?

Hoax in question: http://vil.mcafee.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=99436
Yep it is making the rounds again!

Now I remember why we have locked down their pcs to the point that they can't even add a printer. They are just dumb enough to delete anything that may make the computer work correctly.

Give it right back to 'em

Somebody sent me something like that before. I sent one back to them talking about a virus that couldn't be found no matter how hard you tried, and that the only way to be sure it was off your system was to stick a magnet on the hard drive.

it's a damn shame they didn't fall for it. but i'm waiting, and willing to bet, that somebody will do this. when they do, i wanna hear about it. and best of all i want them to fix the problem themselves. "Stupidity on your behalf, doesn't constitute an emergency on mine."

Let 'em suffer. :-D

My boss fell for this one.

My boss. MCSE. CNE. A+. Fell. For. This. Shit.

I did give him a thorough butt-chewing for it. And fortunately, he hadn't deleted the file yet. He was just calling me to ask what it was and why Norton couldn't detect it.

And then we have people bring their boxen in who are so virus-paranoid that they have deleted jdbgmgr.exe and sulfnbk.exe, but have not bothered to install Norton or McAfee and have thriving colonies of LoveLetter and Klez spreading merrily around their drive.

I shudder to think what would happen if someone sent out an e-mail telling people that win.com was a virus and you needed to boot from a floppy and type "del c:\windows\win.com" at the command prompt. Actually, no I don't. That's called "natural selection."

Heh...interesting synchronicity. We just had someone forward one of those "Bill Gates will pay you for every person you forward this to" chain letter spams. He must have been a bit hard up for cash, because he forwarded it to a global user group which translates into EVERYONE IN THE COMPANY. Over 5,000 individuals in 50 states, from the janitor to the CEO.

Needless to say, he's even harder up for cash now. At least there's one less idiot I'll have to support.

we get plagued by this over and over... I swear the same person has gotten this email 3 times and promptly forwarded it to 1/2 the company, who then deleted the file. idiots, simple as that.
