Just found this on a fresh ticket from our customer service department :

Fault details : Comp recognises that the line connects but they have no homepage. she needs to have a homepage set-up as there is no homepage to connect to so it is trying to connect to the internet but there is receiving information.


Come again?

Edit : Turns out her LAN connection was disabled so it couldn't obtain an IP from her router. Not too difficult.

They are supposed to handle level 1, but they don't. They are customer service for the company, but it's not just internet, it's mainly a telecomm. They're used to phone issues, and their management doesn't take the time to train them properly in the DSL side of things.

Most of the tickets I got when I was working level 2 were like that. I think that's what gave me the most stress, the level 1's (who were outsourced to IBM) were total and complete dumbfucks. "OMFG COMPUTER IS COMPLETELY DEAD" could be a mouse cleaning and "I can't get my email" could be the computer fucking exploded.

the simplest way i could ever put it to people was to say "don't tell me what you want to do, tell me what's stopping you from doing it"

This will ~sometimes~ turn an request to elaborate a "nothing works! I just wanna get e-mail!" into an "The arrow don't move when I move the mouse".

More often than not though, they would usually say something really stupid like "when i click on get mail nothing happens!"

Yeah, I think i'm a damn good troubleshooter, but I seriously doubt my mind is capable of making a quick leap from something like that to a potentially defective mouse.

People, i don't CARE if it's e-mail you want to get, i couldn't care less if you want to open a porn website, if your frigging mouse isn't responding, THEN SAY THAT!

But of course, that would make sense wouldn't it?

The U.S. educational system sucks. Why bother with all this shit most people aren't going to use? We need classes in basic logic, and things like how to fill out a tax return. But that'd make sense too.
