One of these days I will ask the people I work with "what is the best way to file an application?" or "what is the best way to sweep a floor?". Regardless, I've been asked many times as to what is the best anti-spam solution. Great question... I don't know. I use a dump account anytime I need to register something, one for friends, another for work, one for online business, and another for personal stuff. I rarely recieve spam. So, while exicuting good judgement and not giving real e-mail address to porn and shopper sites I stay spam free. Great for me, but it makes me clueles to the best anti-spam software for e-mail clients. So gang, the next time the shipping/receiving guy asks me "Whats the best spam software?" what should I tell him? any good experiences with said product?

T-bird?

Thunderbird invariably catches the few pieces that slip by the Comcast filter.

It depends, for me. Thunderbird is getting better, but it still doesn't catch all of the masses of spam I get. I think maybe a third gets through (which boggles me, really, although it's better than it used to be.)

Gmail, if you use that, is almost flawless.

Eudora is tempermental, but it had an excellent spam filtering function when I used it.

I had good results using Popfile as an add-on to my email, as well, having it insert a new header into my email that I could filter off of. Only problem with Popfile is it starts to become a memory hog after a while of being up without shut down (since I run my computer almost nonstop, this became an issue...)

My university's started using Postini (http://www.postini.com), which seems to have a good algorithm. It quanrantines all your spam before it hits your inbox, then sends you a weekly email with the sender/subject lines so you can see if it's caught anything real. Unlike our old spam software, it's yet to filter any emails from my mom :P

I always tell 'em I rolled my own, and they probably don't have the right equipment to duplicate it. That shuts 'em right up. Ahh, the joys of running your own mail server.

PS. Then I recommend Mozilla or Thunderbird.

I do the same thing, with email accounts..

My biggest problem(s) is/are the 'friends' and relatives who try to do me a 'favor' by sending me the latest FWD: SEND THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW emails, or, worse than that, fucking e-cards.

Thanks, Mom, and yes.. happy fucking birthday to me. Nothing like having my email distributed to the spawns of Satan for my birthday.

Thanks.

To paraphrase one of the girls I work with, the perfect solution to not receive spam, is to cancel your internet account, sell your computer and never use the internet again. Any other choice will leave you with some spam.

Though, in my experience ,gMail and well fed spamassassin filters work.
