Having been terrified of computers for years, my mother has finally decided to learn, and she's been doing surprisingly well and is really getting into it. This morning, she calls me from work (she's a supermarket cashier) to tell me that several of the lads are crowded round the manager's PC because somehow things have been set pink. 'I know you can change all this,' says mum 'I've changed all mine and put a background on and stuff'. I tried to relay instructions on how to set it back again, but the lads would have none of it. She had to go start her shift so left them. I got a text message that Luke has said 'She set it to permanent and so it will need to be reinstalled.' He also said the control panel had been deleted. To me this sounds like someone logged in as Administrator - which is no doubt without password - and had a play and the manager is using a restricted user. They will have none of it. I offered to go in, but they refused. If they reinstall the machine over this, I may have to go in and hit this Luke character with a large frozen fish.

He sounds like some of the "computer experts" that advise my customers.. If someone says to me "a bloke in the pub said" I've started telling them that they drink in the wrong pub, and should be drinking in The Crown, Brynamman, if they want real advice.. that's my local..
