MS Exchange

I'm being laid off on 12/31 so I'm in job hunting mode full force. I had a recruiter call me and she told a company that I knew Exchange and I don't. They don't want an expert in Exchange, just basic knowledge but no place I've ever worked has used it.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good online source for learning the basics about it?

I set up and run an exchange server on my own home network for practice. Exchange is....interesting. Its also as non-intuitive as you can imagine and Exchange2K (i think) requires to be installed on a active directory server with DNS running.

As for user account maintainance and such, its pretty easy to manage, all the e-mail account stuff is handled in Active Directory. But troubleshooting, tweaking, and other forms of admin-ing are an entirely different story.

I installed it at home and played around with it. Of course I installed 2000 so it seemed to be much more intuitive then 5.5 namely becuase of how much easier Active Directory is to manage then the old domain structrue of NT4 was. As posted above, 2k does need to be on a DC running AD and dns. Also before you run it, you must run forest prep, or domainprep off the cd, to create all the new schema objects that exchange needs. If you are trying to integrate 5.5 into an AD schema, you need to get a program called ADC (Active Directory Connecter). Only problem I've been having with 2k is getting the MSN Messanger server working .. but I don't see that as a crucial system.

thanks for the info! a guy at work has a friend who recently gave him a demo copy of exchange and he's going to lend it to me so i can cram this weekend.

all i have to say about exchange... if you dont mind breaking it a couple of times in the name of learning its easy...
