OMG. That's crazy. SOunds like that guy is a real tool.

I work at a university. What I have found is that having a master's or a PhD doesn't really matter. They write their dissertations on one topic and the rest is all theoretical mumbo jumbo. I'd take someone without even a bachelors who has actual hands on experience any day over someone with a masters or PhD in computer science.

I have an MS in Comp Sci and it's all theoretical stuff - networks, o/s, etc. No practical experience whatsoever in the classes. Doesn't surprise me. I do wonder - what the background is of the person who hired him?

That's exactly why I'm leery about going back to school. I've got an Associate's degree and a few years of hands-on experience. I'm not really sure another 3-4 years of schooling is really going to make me any better at what I'm doing. All the CS programs seem to be just "learn to program" stuff anyway, which isn't what I'm interested in.

all theory, management, & bullshit - zero technical, hardly any hardware. all my techincal expereience was from the local community college & my associates degrees, not my BS in MIS.
