On a normal PC (Personal Computer), soundcards are handled by (Power Off! Power Off!) opening up the computer case, pulling one out and putting another one in. However with laptops it's not that easy because everything is compact, and things aren't MEANT to be removed for that reason...
So... That makes things more difficult. First off, unless you have a tiny plug-in card sticking out the side or the back of the laptop... most likely your soundcard is NOT removable and is built into a bunch of circutry along with other components.
What you should be doing is calling/visiting/talking to the service centre of the brand of laptop that it is (Toshiba, Dell, whatever) or the people who sold it to you; whichever is easiest.
Most likely this will end up being handled by an 'authorized service centre'. Either one in your hometown, should there be one certified to handle it, or by mailing it away for repair.
accidents *do* happen sometimes and sometimes components *do* go bad. But I'd say that probably if you have a laptop your sound card doesn't need to be replaced... maybe the drivers just reinstalled or restored from a restore cd. Drivers can usually be downloaded from the website of the laptop manufacturer's webpage for your model of laptop.
Of course I say that without any knowledge of why you were told 'you need to replace your sound card' so I know nothing and could be wrong.
