Victory for the dark side!
Dec. 1st, 2004 03:20 pmYes, my complete n00b luddite aunt has been taught the following:
- Firefox is the browser to use.
- Firewalls are your friend
- If you want tech support, you MSN or ICQ me. Calling is only applicable if your computer is glowing bright red and has set fire to your cat.
I'm rather chuffed with that ^_^
(also got her onto Fark.com and bash.org.)
This is the woman, who not a year ago asked me to "show her the internet" on my computer. (As in "Show me the eiffel tower!" sort of show me o.O)
There's hope yet....

Commendations and salutations!

Date: 2004-12-01 05:48 am (UTC)I got a phone call from my mom the day before yesterday wanting a) to know how to turn off the MS firewall under SP2 since it was interfering with her sewing machine and b) what to do since she accidentally deleted all her downloaded designs in her sewing machine's embroidery files. (Note that she has a fancy-schmancy sewing machine with an embroidery attachment that connects up with her laptop which houses the software.)
Er, yeah, mom. I have experience with that $1600 piece of software, given I don't sew and have only seen it when you showed me the stuff you downloaded.
I think I at least convinced her that if she's going to disable the firewalls, she needs to disconnect her laptop from the dsl line first.

Date: 2004-12-03 11:08 am (UTC)I'm still trying to get my mother to check her email BEFORE she whines about not getting the new pictures of her granddaughter. I tried teaching her AIM once; I left her house thinking I'd developed a permanent twitch.
oh jeeez
Date: 2004-12-16 01:41 pm (UTC)"how do I email?"

"YOU KNOW, EMAIL"
