NetworkSolutions is pissing me off. Bigtime. I am trying to transfer my domain to another registrar (godaddy.com) because they are cheaper and better. Thanks to the new ICANN policies on transfers being automatically approved unless a domain is locked, NetSol tried to do everyone a "favor" by auto-locking their domains. Well, that's fine - except that their "unlock domain" doesn't really work. It's been just shy of 24 hours since I unlocked, and I still can't transfer - godaddy returns results as "domain under registrar lock". Bulllllpucky!

NetSol sent me an email saying that if I'm going to transfer the domain, I need to call one of their "transfer specialists" for assistance. I haven't called yet because I haven't had time. Probably tonight. My initial read on this is: "we don't want to give up your $35/yr domain registration and lose it to someone who provides the same service for one fifth the price, so we'll make it so hard to transfer that you'll give up."

I don't need any bleedin' assistance! Just let me transfer the damn thing!

I've just filled out their support request form. I wonder how they intend to respond...

Well even before all this crap, it took me *two years* to get them to admit that my domain was mine and transfer it.

Yeah that was my problem. The 'registrant' went out of business, and was completely uncontactable. Did they care? Nope, they said they'd only transfer it if they got permission from the registrant. Never mind that I was down, with up-to-date details as *everything else*. "Did you mail the registrant?" "It bounced." "Did you phone the registrant?" "Number not in use." "Did you phone the registrant's mobile?" "Number not recognised." "Did you write to the registrant?" "Returned to sender." "So... do we believe the guy's done a runner now?" "No."

Ugh that sucks. Lord help all us GoDaddy people if they ever go out of business. ;-)

At least in my case the registrar FINALLY got back with me about two weeks after I requested the lock to be removed.

Of course that was only after I finally got fed up with not hearing back so rather than call once every few days I started calling them every hour and left another voicemail. ;-) Prior to that I kept calling them requesting that they'd change my address, e-mail and phone number information and they never got back to me about it.

When they finally got back to me I found out that the web host my sister had my domain registered through had decided to let tucows handle the domain registration from there on in so it was a simple webpage to take care of it all.

Thankfully I've had much better success with godaddy's support line (Though I've only needed it once)

Make sure that the ADMIN contact is your information too. (I work at Go Daddy)

Man. How annoying.

and it reminds me that I really need to get around to updating the out-of-date information on my own domain.

You'll never get a monkey on the phone, they'll just reply with an email and you'll have to login to a support system to get your answer. Thats the way Stargateinc does it.

I go through the same shit all the time with NetSol. Once you get on the phone with the specialist they'll try to knock down the price of the domain to about 15 bucks. Once you tell them that it's still cheaper at GoDaddy they'll try to sell you on NameSecure.com(their 'partnership' to try and get competitive with GoDaddy.

And I got tired of all the spam I got because of NSI's policy of "let's sell your meil address to people", along with the junk mail.

I'd switch over my company's name info over, but we have it locked in until 2008. ::sigh::

Good luck getting any response from NetSol. We're a reseller of them at work (only for legacy accounts, we do not use them to register any new domain names) and it's not uncommon to wait up to 2 weeks or not get a response at all from their reseller support team.

That said, we have been successful in unlocking domain names via the reseller portal, but things may be different for a direct account. I've always found the WHOIS info takes a long time to update with any changes (24-48 hours).

Network Solutions is known negatively far and wide for these kind of things. Just try looking up a NSI registrared domain on DNSStuff (http://www.dnsstuff.com). You get a nice message about why your information could not be found and how NSI is the worst registrar.
